Doctor reveals ‘fascinating’ surprise hack for eliminating garlic breath

It turns out that an apple a day also keeps bad breath away.

A gut health doctor is going viral on social media for sharing the surprisingly simple way to get rid of garlic breath, which she claims can linger for up to a day.

Dr. Megan Rossi, who hails from the UK, took to Instagram on Wednesday claiming that an apple is far more effective than a piece of minty chewing gum for eliminating odor emanating from the mouth.

“Garlic breath brings more to the table than depth to your dishes and zing to your sauces,” Rossi wrote, urging readers not to avoid the bulb, citing its health benefits.

The expert went on to explain that garlic’s main ingredient, allicin, has been medically proven to boost the immune system and help fight viruses.

However, Rossi revealed the downside of its consumption, saying it causes “strong garlic breath that can persist for almost a day.”

“As the garlic moves through your digestion, the by-products of garlic are absorbed into the bloodstream and carried to the lungs,” she stated. “This gives you a ‘repeat performance’ that chewing gum can’t quite get rid of.”

Instead of gum, Rossi recommended a trusty old apple to beat bad breath.

“The plant chemicals (including quercetin) in the apple have been shown to interact with the sulfur compounds in garlic, deodorizing that particular whiff,” the doctor declared.

She also added that there were four other plants that could help eliminate the odor of garlic: mint, parsley, spinach and lettuce.

Rossi’s followers were wowed by the healthy hack, with one stating: “This is a really cool thing to know! Thank you for sharing!”

“This is so interesting!” another enthused before a third claimed the tip was “fascinating.”

Meanwhile, the doctor also shared another trick to maximize the health benefits of garlic.

She suggested leaving chopped garlic aside for 10 minutes before cooking so that more allicin can be released.

One fan responded: “I usually prep 10 min before cooking so good to know the benefits come with that time.”

They added: “I’ll start adding mint to my water during dinner so my hubby won’t get attacked by my breath!”
