‘Amazin’ But True’ Podcast Episode 157: Should The Mets Fire Buck Showalter?

Buck Showalter’s seat is scorching hot.

Sunday’s mismanagement of the bullpen was inexcusable.

Not putting David Robertson in a 6-3 game with the bases loaded against the Phillies where you can take the series is an utter disgrace.

Their 35-42 at this point is truly an embarrassment.

The bullpen that GM Billy Eppler has put together is also disconcerting.

There are minor leaguers coming in left and right for a team with the biggest payroll in the sport.

A team that was set up for a World Series looks destined for the golf course in October.

There is no depth in this bullpen and Edwin Diaz going down should not have meant that this team would not even contend for a playoff spot.

Something has got to change… fast.

To rant and vent over the Mets’ loss Sunday and another series loss over the weekend in Philadelphia, we bring you a new episode of the “Amazin’ But True” podcast with Nelson Figueroa and me.

Amazin’ But True Podcast with Jake Brown & Nelson Figueroa:

  • OUT OF BUCK: Horrible decision making on Sunday by Buck Showalter. He continues to make wrong decisions that prove costly.
  • FIRE BUCK?: Is it time to fire Buck Showalter? Will it make a difference? Does he last all year?
  • EDUARDO ESCOBAR TRADE: Making the trade in the middle of the game Friday made no sense. You could have done it at any other point of the day. Also, why trade for two starting pitchers in Double-A that are not helping you this season? You need pitchers that can get major leaguers out right now to help this bad bullpen.
  • WHAT’S AHEAD: Mets have all bad teams in front of them on the schedule. This was a chance to start a stretch and gain some ground. They have to go on a winning streak and get to around .500 by the All-Star break or this season will be over.
  • BULLPEN MESS: Everyone that came in Sunday’s game out of the bullpen wasn’t on the Opening Day roster. Eppler did a terrible job putting together reliable bullpen depth, especially once Diaz went down. They have too many minor leaguers coming into big spots. Starters not going long enough has doomed the Mets bad bullpen.
