Kids treated after suffering reactions from ‘unknown substance’ found in lunches

Paramedics have treated several children at a Queensland daycare center after they were exposed to an “unknown substance” in their lunch.

Queensland Ambulance Service was called to Milestones Early Learning Centre in Keperra, in Brisbane’s northwest, at about 12.30 p.m. on Thursday where a number of children were suffering from a range of reactions after eating their lunch.

The daycare center reportedly sent a text message and released a letter to parents this afternoon advising parents of what happened.

The letter, obtained by News Corp, stated “all children” had been exposed to an “unknown substance in their lunch” and were having “minor reactions” according to the Courier Mail.

Reactions, the letter read included “redness to face and body, swelling to lips and face, irritation/ agitation”.

“The chances of a delayed onset of symptoms are rare,” it continued.

“If your child develops any of these symptoms, Don’t panic.”

A text message was sent to parents just before 2 p.m. asking for them to arrange for their children to be picked up “as soon as possible”.

“Several children have presented with an unknown skin rash,” the message read.

“Medical advice is being strictly followed including advice to families to pick up children.”

A spokesperson from QAS told news.com.au no patients required transport to a hospital.

Some sought private medical advice.

All children were stable.
