‘Amazin’ But True’ Podcast Episode 142: Mets’ Embarrassing Showing in Detroit Sweep

The Mets were pathetic in Detroit.

Swept by the Tigers, who were last in MLB in runs. They were 10-17 coming in.

Detroit had a roster that even true baseball fans could not name most of.

The Mets are a better team than the one we saw in an embarrassing sweep.

If they aren’t better than that, this will be a waste of a season in a window that isn’t incredibly long with two old aces.

Max Scherzer needs to be better or the Mets will be screwed.

It’s just 32 games into a 162-game season. There is plenty of time to turn it around.

But Buck Showalter has to be better.

The lineup has to hit.

The pitching staff has to get better.

Across the board, the Mets need to improve, because this is the roster they got right now.

To react to the brutal showing in Detroit, we bring you a new episode of the “Amazin’ But True” podcast with Nelson Figueroa and me.

Amazin’ But True Podcast with Jake Brown & Nelson Figueroa:

  • JAKE RANT: I vent my frustrations with the Mets in a rant following a pathetic showing in Detroit. The Mets lost to arguably the worst lineup in baseball and the team with the least runs in baseball. It was a brutal showing across the board and can not happen if this team is going to compete for even a playoff spot. Brandon Nimmo can not be trying to steal a base in the ninth inning down two runs. Getting thrown out there to kill a rally is unacceptable.
  • VERLANDER’S DEBUT: He looked fine after the first inning. Seemed to have some jitters early on and had to get used to the pitch clock. Rough first inning, but good sign to see him get it together after that. He will start going deeper into games after another outing probably.
  • SCHERZER STRUGGLES: Should we be concerned about Max Scherzer? Figgie believes the pitch clock is having a major impact on him. Warmer weather might help, but he is not pitching like a $43 million pitcher and will need to be better or the Mets are in big trouble.
  • BETTER THAN THIS: The Mets won 101 games last year. They are flat out a better team than the 16-16 inconsistent bunch we are watching. This series needs to be a kick in the butt for them going into a weekend series at home against the Rockies where they really need to sweep. They can not lose a series to a last-place Colorado team.
